Brief Biography of Jim Sharp:

About Batcave Studios at Sharp Recording Service
Brief Biography of Jim Sharp

Born Feb 1945. Grew up in South Jersey. Started playing drums and learning to sing vocal harmony at age 12.

Established my first band “The Flintones” around 1960. That was just as the doo-wop era was yielding to diverse influences. The guitar player in that band was Seymour Duncan, now famous for his guitar pickups.

Following High School began playing full time in Philadelphia, Jersey shore and Washington DC venues.  Memorable gigs included those with Roy Buchanan, Fats Dominoe, Lloyd Price and other touring bands.

Always looking over the recording engineers shoulder whenever a recording session would come up, my interest in studio recording was born in the 60s.

While serving I played in a Travis Air Force Base soul band for 2 ½ years until I was sent overseas to a small missile base in the Pacific Ocean. Performed as guest drummer with visiting entertainers who could not transport drums.

The guitar player in that band was Seymour Duncan, now famous for his guitar pickups.

I am also a Professional drum teacher.

In 1999 I established my studio and have continued to re-invest and modify to make the studio capable of true professional quality recordings.

Since re-entering civilian life, my musical career has spanned nearly every genre of rock, jazz. blues, country and world music.

Here’s a recap of where I was at
geographically and musically:

  • 1969-1974 South Jersey; Top 40, English Invasion, Blood Sweat & Tears Chicago style, Grateful Dead covers etc.
  • 1974 South Carolina; Country then Southern Rock and heavier rock; Deep Purple, Blackmore’s Rainbow, Originals. Also worked as Disc Jockey at WXLM 97 Rock in Savannah GA.
  • 1980-1990 Albany NY; R&B, Blues, Country
  • 1990-1998 Blues, R&B Rock and Jazz

In 1999 I established my studio and have continued to re-invest and modify to make the studio capable of true professional quality recordings.

I am also a Professional drum teacher.
